Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust

Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the United Kingdom. Our experts use the latest technology to diagnose and treat conditions related to heart and lung disease.

Clinical teams at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals care for patients with a wide range of complex heart and lung conditions, including congenital, inherited and acquired disease. We are world leaders in the diagnosis, management and treatment. Our children’s services provide care from before a child is born, throughout childhood and into adolescence, before managing a smooth transition to our adult teams.

They work from two main sites:

  • Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, West London
  • Harefield Hospital near Uxbridge

Their research

Research programmes play a vital role at both these hospitals. This is because the most talented medical experts are rarely content with using tried and tested methods to treat their patients.

The opportunity to influence the course of modern medicine by developing new treatments is a prospect that attracts them to specialist centres, where research opportunities are a fundamental part of delivering patient care. Many medical advances made at the Trust have been taken up across the NHS and beyond.

Each year, between 500 and 600 papers by researchers associated with the Trust are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, such as The Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine.

Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and NCIMI

We are delighted to be a part of this exciting project. At The Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital, we are proud of our record of research output. However, we believe that this growing NCIMI network of like-minded investigators, working co-operatively together, will have opportunities to access data and develop collaborations that will achieve outputs we could never achieve alone.

We firmly believe that the radiologist leveraging the advantages of AI will be the radiologist of the future. AI will not replace the Radiologist, but the Radiologist routinely accessing AI tools is the radiologist of the future, defining a new model of practice. We hope to contribute at the leading edge of this new paradigm.
