The AI quantification of disease in Lymphoma from PET/CT.
Lymphoma is a disorder of the blood, which particularly affects lymph nodes, which get swollen and enlarged. It spreads rapidly and needs to be treated often with chemotherapy. There are two main types, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which affects younger patients and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which is more common but affects older patients. It’s an area of unmet need because of the growing incidence and the fact that patients present often with quite late-stage disease that needs personalised treatment.
It’s one of the main areas that PET/CT is used. It combines anatomical imaging where you can see the different parts of the body with functional imaging. And what it involves is patients having an injection of a mildly radioactive compound which gets incorporated and taken up by cancer cells, and then you can acquire those images and superimpose them on the anatomy image so that you can accurately localise where in the body the hotspots are.
State-of-the-art clinical PET/CT reading software supports clinicians in reading and deriving measurements from the images that inform the doctor’s impression and report.
Mirada Medical, in close collaboration with partners at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and the Alliance Medical Group, is investigating the role that Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning can play in diagnostic nuclear medicine. The partners are working in concert to develop and deploy the next generation of intelligent and integrated imaging solutions for diagnostics applications in the clinic.
